I made two surfboards at the Cal Poly Surfboard Shaping class, but I don’t really remember how to make them that well. Oh well.
- Remove the “crust” from the blank. I think use a planar to take a lot of it off.
- Cut to length, just saw off some of the tail, what could go wrong?
- Get down to desired thickness with a planar, just go across the whole thing. (make the deck sloped or flat depending on preference)
- Make the rocker of the board (the banana curve) by sanding down the outer thirds of the bottom of the board, then repeat with the top.
- Finally, trace the outline of the board.
- Cut along the outline with a saw.
- Mark the edges or rail of the board the way you want it to shape up.
- Make a series of 45 degree cuts by sanding into the edges of the rail.
- Blend the rails to be smooth.
- Add any bottom concaves with sandpaper.
- Forget to mark your finboxes.
- Send to someone who knows what they are doing for the fiberglass.
- Surf!?
